WhatsApp, the world’s largest messaging platform, has been consistently updating its features to stay ahead of competitors like Telegram. Finally, users can now enjoy a highly anticipated feature: message editing.
Message Editing comes to WhatsApp
Earlier this week, the editing button was launched in the latest beta version of WhatsApp Web. According to WABetaInfo, it’s now available for the Android beta app. The new message editing option enables users to correct typos or completely modify their messages.
To edit your text, long-press the message, tap the three dots at the top, and select the editing button in the pop-up menu. All chat participants will see an “edited” badge next to the message, indicating that the text was modified after being sent. However, users only have a 15-minute window to edit messages.
The 15-minute time limit is designed to prevent users from editing older messages. Initially, the message deletion feature also had a 15-minute limit, which was later extended to two days. WhatsApp might consider a similar extension for the message editing feature.
It’s worth noting that when using WhatsApp Companion (Companion mode) to connect two devices, messages sent from one device cannot be edited on the other. Users can test the feature with WhatsApp beta v2.23.10.13 for Android.
Officially registered WhatsApp beta program participants can get the update from the Play Store. For everyone else, the message editing feature is expected to roll out to all versions within the next few weeks.
